Mexicans have always been oppressed
R Acu�a's treatise of Mexican Americans (now called Chicanos or Pochos) includes what many would call 'the Underside of American History' (search title).The fact is, America waged war against the Mexicans, using many of the same methods that we now accuse those of Iraq or Bosnia of using, and differs little from the 'ethnic cleansing or genocide of the modern world.In school, most US Americans are given a glossed-over summary of key US propaganda regarding the history lessons that politicians want people to know, rather than an objective, 'tell-it-like-it-is/was' history that encompasses true social responsibility.
Great Basic Review of Chicana/o History
Mexicans, and for that matter People of Color in general, have occupied an important space/place in the labor force.Historical documents and current trends only serve to demonstrate that without Mexican labor, the development of agriculture, mining, construction (universities), railroads, and highways would have been considerably slowed to a crawl in the Southwest.Even if Mexicans are to be regarded as important or at least acknowledged to have had a presence in the Southwest, it has not been until the recent fifty years in which we have begun to see in depth scholarly work focused on the working classes--including Chicana/os. Every view that we will ever see about history is a view that is skewed by personal feelings.As historians, it is our job to figure out what is fact and what is feeling.This book may not be the most objective book about the history of the Xicano people, but it spoke to me in the same way that the Anglo child finds solace in the played out text books found in school.I relate to the stories that Acuna tells, and I enjoy his point of view.He is a wonderful historian, and worthy of being put in the same class as Zinn (A people's history of the U.S.)I hope you enjoy this book, and listen to the frustration in the writing.It is the key to the Chicano's history in a society where Anglo paradigms edit the truth. ... Barry Fergus Jones, CISM CISSP
This is the best single reference that I've seen on the subject.Kevin and Rebecca have assembled a guide that is eminently practical, superbly organized, and tremendously helpful.I reach for it every time I have a question on HIPPA.In fact, it's the only HIPPA reference I've used since I got it.

Excellent resource everyone involved in HIPAA should have
Rebecca and Kevin have created an excellent resource for HIPAA Security Practictioners. They provide practical guidance for interpreting the HIPAA security rule, in terms that the non-security professional can understand. Especially of value are the ideas on how to "implement" the security rule, broken down by the relevant HIPAA security standard. I agree with the practical approach that they take within the book, as it is consistent with the HIPAA message that I have also been communicating over the past several years. There are also useful lists of items needed to maintain security compliance after implementation. This is a good book for the novice and experienced privacy/security professional. It is nice to see that someone has compiled this much useful information into one book. Nice job ! This is a must have book if you are a Security of Privacy Officer.

A must have for all Information Security Professionals!
As the title states, the book provides a very practical guide to HIPAA Privacy and Security.I used this book as a key reference to understanding the HIPAA privacy and security rule and in building a comprehensive roadmap (project plan) for compliance -- nicely done!Read more

Updates with latest laws mean always up-to-date legal documents.
Great software.Simple to use.The legal team at Quicken/NOLO appear to constantly be surveying the legal findings in the courts and automaticly push the implications into the software as updates.The best part is that as the laws change, the software alerts you when you need to reprint and resign your legal documents so that they comply with the latest laws.It is the perfect balance of accurate legal advice at a very fair price.

This "book" is basically a printed user's guide to the Quicken Willmaker Plus 2006 software, which is included on the accompanying CD-ROM.That is, you get the software itself and a thick printed guide, not a bad deal at all.The guide is actually more than just a manual; instead it gives you a lot of background information on property rights, wills, living wills, living trusts, estate planning, etc.I think this is a better bundle than the software itself which doesn't even come with a printed manual. ... An important work that clearly and succintly makes the case.
Bringing the credibility of her many years of public service, most notably her work as a Congresswoman during the Watergate Committee and as a prosecutor, Elizabeth Holtzman, with Cynthia Cooper, has produced an important work that is, at the same time, both lawyerly and accessible.They provide the reader with the background - both historical and legal - of the important role of impeachment in the maintenance of our democratic system and then proceed to seamlessly lay out the evidence that overwhelmingly supports their conclusion.While I may not have been the hardest person to sell on their conclusion, the argument is so well-drawn that it is hard to imagine that anyone approaching the book with an open-mind wouldn't come away thinking that impeachment is a necessity or, at least, an option that needs to be explored more in the public discourse.
Every American Should Read this Book
Holtzman and Cooper have created a brilliantly organized, succinct, and vivid analysis of President George W. Bush's high crimes and misdemeanors.Their book is engrossing and enraging; it makes abundantly clear why it is crucial that Congress take steps to impeach this president, for the very survival of our increasingly threatened democracy.

An interesting perspective on being American

I am in Government Contracting and this book is very informative and can be used as a ver good tool.
Needs Editing
The book is certainly packed with a lot of valuable information, and I suggest purchasing it if you plan on writing any government proposals, or managing government contracts.Just be prepared to filter through a lot of bad editing, spelling errors, sentences that make no sense, incorrect wording that render the sentence incorrect, and, at certain times, words that do not exist.For example, the word "definitized" appears many times; and I don't think the government has ever "estopped" invoking ceiling price limitations.

In Love With His Own Words ...
This is a tough book to critique b/c my law school recommended it.The author writes a well organized book, but every chapter has been padded -- chapters that could have been concisely written in 20 pages drag out to sixty.Buy this book only if you have to and read it only if you must.You aren't going to learn anything definitive from these chapters and all the practicing lawyers I run into think the authors ideas are just plain silly.The best way to teach about trial advocacy is to include REAL transcripts from REAL cases, not made up stories about fire trucks and people late for work.Those work great -- on paper.Plus the book never answers the big question -- what is the author's ACTUAL TRIAL EXPERIENCE?

Great single source for U.S. patent prosecution
I graduated law school with honors in intellectual property. I have had the opportunity to read a number of textbooks on patents and patent law. These materials by Donner, the two volume set plus the softcover digest and CD, are the best single source of information on prosecuting a patent (trying to get a patent approved) in the U.S. that I've ever come across. I bought it hoping it would help in a particular prosecution I was involved in, and sure enough, Donner delivered. Important book, along with...
Divorce is one of the most grueling experiences anyone can go through, and this book is a great guide for easing the challenges.The book is packed with information on the legal and emotional issues that are likely to arise -- and how to deal with them.The topics span the board, from making the initial decision, to preparing for trial, to how to talk with the kids about it all.
Very Informative, but deceptively biased
After reading many, many studies on the subject of divorce, support and custody, and also personally being a single father for 13 years with sole custody of 3 children and also being a non-custodial parent of one younger child I feel I can comment objectively on this book. Extensive Information
This book is filled with extensive information. With over 60% of the population getting divorced, this subject should no longer be taboo.

Reinventing Government
This is an excellent book that covers all of the facts about our old and new government laws in comparison to current events that occur within our society. Regulations and guidelines are also described about the Private and Public Sector and how they differ.It is definately a great book.

With low expectations, it is good
Firstly, let me say that I agree with most of the other readers when they write that this book was neither academic nor "reinventive".I will say that this was strictly an idea book, a motivator to the masses.So long as one doesn't expect emperical research, evenhanded arguements, or even updated conclusions, they are fine.When reading this book, don't expect, nor should you expect, to be handed ideas on a platter to run with.Rather, they present the optimum view of their vision.Whether it is right, wrong or impossible, they put forth thoughts that could spark change.The change that I am speaking of is not a grand sweeping motion that will forever alter the government, but rather pieces of an idea.Even if these particular ideas are not implemented, the chances of them sparking new ways of approach or implementation are greater. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, US Defense Contractors were also on the verge of collapse, that is until someone had the bright idea of privatizing the government. Current government privatization efforts have resulted in huge contracts costing the American taxpayer double and triple the cost of the original government employees.
