5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book By A Great Teacher
Gerry Beyer was my "Wills and Trusts" professor in law school. He was my favorite teacher, and the favorite of many of my fellow law students, for several reasons:first of all, he had an excellent command of the law. There wasn't an aspect of it he didn't know.Secondly, he taught in a clear and concise manner. Many of my law professors were "hide-the-ball" types:their clumsy use of the Socratic method left students lost and confused. When Professor Beyer lectured, you knew exactly what point he was trying to make. You didn't have to guess at it.Finally, he was a warm, friendly, humorous guy - very approachable and not at all intimidating, a rare trait in a lawyer. This book is everything Professor Beyer is: knowledgeable, approachable, and clear. And as a rookie attorney in the field of wills, trusts, and estate planning, this is the book I turn to first and foremost as a reference. That said, I believe this book is most appropriate for law students, paralegals, practicing attorneys, and others who need a serious grasp of wills, trusts, and estate planning law. Those who want a simple, cursory introduction may find themselves overwhelmed by all the legal jargon - as was mentioned by a previous reviewer.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great intro to law text
As an MBA student, this text was a great introduction to business law.The actual cases proved to be quite interesting and illustrative of the topics discussed throughout the text. You must go through the text before reading the cases or you may be confused, but the terms are so well laid out that once familiar with them, the cases are quite easy to understand and you are able to brief them yourself! Will serve as an excellent reference and I have decided to keep it in my library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!!!
I could not be happy with the speed and condition of this item.I am very pleased with the purchase that I made, and look forward to doing business with them if needed.Thank you for the wonderful, and speedy service.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Introductory Business Law Text!
Unlike the previous post, I found this book to be extremely helpful as a business student. If one is looking for a strictly "law" book this is obviously not the correct choice. For business professionals and students, however, it is an excellent introduction to the field of business law. The cases are in fact quite helpful and are not too long as stated in the previous post. The "briefs" provide a good insight into the heart of the issue at hand and are quite useful. They are much better than fabricated examples, as they are up to date, and add a 'reality' element to the text.

5-0 out of 5 stars GIAN FIERO ON KOHN ON MUSIC LICENSING
Simply put: This is the bible of music licensing. It's not as cheap as the bible and you don't have a prayer of finding it much cheaper than the used versions that someone foolishly gives up on Amazon, but regardless of the price, it's worth every penny. If you want to truly understand the mechanics, logistics, and legalities of music licensing, learn it from the authority who was sorting out licensing issues concerning the Internet and digital distribution over 10 years ago - before it became a "hot" topic.

5-0 out of 5 stars A valuable tool, and totally unknown to many who'd benefit
I discovered this book when I was researching an article "Who owns the rights? Copyright, the law and licensing the show," which was published in the Summer 1999 issue of the Educational Theatre Associationquarterly Teaching Theatre (Volume 10, Number 4) and which is now availableonline (though the reviewer guidelines do not allow me to post the URL, soanyone interested will have to email me at knscott@juno.com for it). Kohnon Music Licensing is a most valuable resource for anyone who either doesmusical theatre, or uses music in theatrical production, since it makesclear aspects of musical licensing that I am sure are as mysterious to manyothers as they were to me before reading this book. In my opinion, everytheatre educator or community theater producer/director should read bothChapter 18, "The Grand Rights Controversy", and Chapter 14,"Synchronization Licenses," before producing another musical (or excerptfrom one) or using any copyright-protected music "dramatically"(a term defined in the book) in the production of any play. AND the authorsmaintain a Website to which readers can bring any question still unclearafter reading the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Introduction to Business Law
This was the textbook for an introductory course in business law I took. It does a great job at laying the groundwork of the US legal system and explodes many common myths. A large amount of material is covered clearly and consisely. The chapters on contracts and constitutional law alone are worth the price of the book. The authors do a good job hitting the high points and not getting bogged down in details that are inappropriate for an introductory course.
5-0 out of 5 stars Legal & Regulatory Environment of Business
Great Book. Better than the other Legal Business books. Great cases. Easy to read and understand. Great for Business law. Other books are more about law instead of business law, Not this book. You be the Judge DVD-Rom is great similation of legal business situations. Book is great for learning Business Law.

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative, enlightening, and well-organized.
Like many Americans, I didn't know much about our country's principles of government or its legal system. This book helped me to become more knowledgeable about both.I admit, this is not reading I would choose to curl up with in front of the fire; this was part of a requirement for my MBA.However, I will remember what I've learned in this text long after my class ends. Having previously been clueless about the legal system, it is now exhilarating to read about, say, how the nine US Supreme Court Justices are dealing with the aftermath of the Gore vs. Bush debacle and actually understand what is going on.The chapters are well-organized and easy to understand. There are even helpful study tips and ways to brief a legal case in the beginning of the text. After completing this book, I not only feel better equipped to handle business decisions, but also feel empowered and enlightened for better understanding our great country. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource, but guidance was helpful
Teachers and the Law (6th Edition) was the primary text used for my National-Louis University (Wheeling, IL) School Law course. Although the text implies that only information regarding teachers will be discussed, Fischer actually covers legal issues that deal with many levels of educational law including student cases, administrator cases, and even cases that don't involve teachers at all, but loosely relate to educational law in general.
4-0 out of 5 stars Teachers and the Law
I received the book in good shape. The cover looked next to new and there were very little marks or highlights in the text.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for Teachers
Case law, unless done perhaps by the likes of John Grissam, is not page turning material. However, the authors have done an incredible job of putting very pressing and often complex areas into an accessible and engaging book.Written in an easy to use question and answer format, the updated book touches on education legal issues ranging from free speech, to students with disabilities, to internet issues. While of great use for educator (or educators to be), the book could also easily be adapted for classroom use, either as a debate or research starter.Worth every penny of its price. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars did you read the footnotes?
Having never actually subjected the book to scrutiny, albeit rather an exageration, it comes as no little surprise that i discover both the writing style and the general cognitive processes of the authors, in addition to the lack of well-placed commas, to be, without equivocation n.1, the most obtuse, murky, singularly unreaable n.2 display of textual acrobatics i have ever, whether in or out of school n.3, had the distinct displeasure of having to plod through in one day - notwithstanding a few notable books i've also had to accept into my overstuffed head, lately.
5-0 out of 5 stars Well . . .
Well, Judge Posner calls this (in its first edition) the greatest casebook, and surely it is that.

1-0 out of 5 stars Hard class, horrible book
Federal Courts and Federal Jurisdiction is generally recognized as the hardest course in law school. After surviving the course myself, I can attest to this fact.Unfortunately, my course used this text which was useless in imparting an understanding of the material, and in fact did more to confuse my peers and me than anything else.Learning this material is already difficult enough, so it is extremely unhelpful when your text makes the subject even more mystifying.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Book for Patent Law Students, by Flavio Mota
This is a useful book because it explains patent law and patent cases. It describes the relationship between the two. Furthermore, it includes good analogies that help the reader understand the hard to grasp concepts of intellectual property law. For example, the book has a very good description of Section 103--the bulk of an introductory patent law class. So, for all of the aforementioned reasons, a patent law student will appreciate this writing.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent book
I would highly recommend this book to any law student who is taking a class on patent law.Professor Mueller is an excellent writer, and she explains otherwise complex subjects in a way that is both comprehensive and easy to understand.5-0 out of 5 stars extremely helpful and comprehensive
I bought this book in preparation for my Patent Law exam, and it turned out to be much more helpful than my casebook, my other outlines, or anything my professor said in class. It is comprehensive, accessible, and very current.I would highly recommend this book to law students, lawyers, and others who need a well-written and well-researched introduction to the topic. It's simply the best in its field. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent reference
It is difficult to say whether the contentious atmosphere that currently exists regarding the legal opinions of the Supreme Court is greater than any other time in the history of the United States. There have been times, especially during the Civil War and World War I when the Supreme Court raised the ire of many a citizen. Some of the "activist" justices, as some of them are now called, could perhaps be designated as "activist light" if compared with some of the justices of the past. This book gives ample evidence for this comparison, but also gives information on a wide variety of legal issues that the Supreme Court has had to deal with throughout its history. It would probably not be read from cover to cover, but instead serves as a general reference for those readers who are not and do not intend to become legal scholars, but are curious as to the reasoning patterns deployed by the justices who sat on the Court. Readers who are approaching this subject for the first time will find many surprises about the Court, both in the opinions expressed by the judges and in their personal histories and backgrounds. It is fair to say that legal opinions are guided predominantly by the historical context in which they are put forth, and this claim seems to gain more substantiation as more articles in this book are read and studied.
5-0 out of 5 stars Massive tome on the Supreme Court.
_The Oxford Companion to the United States Supreme Court of the United States_(Kermit Hall, ed.) is a massive tome containing a vast swath of information: cases, traditions, theories of constitutional interpretations, historical events, and biographies of all of the Supreme Court Justices. It has the same material (word for word) as Kermit Hall's _The Oxford Guide to United States Supreme Court Decisions_ but this is much more worthwhile reference work because it contains more contextual material than the cases themselves. This book is by no means exhaustive, but it provides a very informative overview of what the Supreme Court has been up to for the past two hundred years and the very different personalities serving on the body.

5-0 out of 5 stars A worthy companion
As the nation prepares to welcome the seventeenth Chief Justice, this book is a wonderful guide to the processes of the least 'media-exposed' branch of the federal government and its highest institution, the Supreme Court.

5-0 out of 5 stars Seething Chaos Reduced to a Haiku
This book is THE key to aceing securities. All the E&E's are outstanding, but this is really a gem.Somehow, Palmiter has reduced the seething chaos of securties law to a virtual haiku of brevity and clarity.I had no prior background in finance but it got me an A.I used this book, Ratner's Nutshell, the textbook, and an outline I inherited from a graduating 3L.The textbook was terrible. The Nutshell was ok, but this book made it superfluous. And, as i read the outline, I came to realize that it was actually abstracted and condensed from this book. This subject could be taught from this book alone.Do yourself a favor and spend the money, it will save you time.

I had the pleasure of taking Professor Seamon's Administrative Law course at the University of South Carolina School of Law. He really knows the material in and out and this book reflects that.Read more
